China and Russia sign a 30-year cooperation agreement on natural gas, starting supply in 2018.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin witnessed the signing of the "Memorandum of Cooperation on the China-Russia Eastern Route Natural Gas Project" between the governments of China and Russia, and the "Gas Purchase and Sale Contract for the China-Russia Eastern Route" between China National Petroleum Corporation and Gazprom on the 21st in Shanghai.
According to the agreement between both parties, starting from 2018, Russia began supplying gas to China through the China-Russia Eastern Route Gas Pipeline, with the gas volume increasing year by year, ultimately reaching 38 billion cubic meters annually over a period of 30 years.
The China-Russia Eastern Route Natural Gas Cooperation, under the personal concern and promotion of the leaders of China and Russia, with direct guidance and participation from the governments of both countries, and through the long-term joint efforts of enterprises from both sides, has been achieved. It is another important result of strengthening the comprehensive energy cooperation partnership and deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Russia, fully reflecting the principle of mutual trust and mutual benefit. Both parties will work together to implement relevant tasks and ensure the successful implementation of the project.
